Outpatient Therapy

Outpatient Therapy services include psychiatric and comprehensive clinical assessments, individual, group, and family therapies, and psychotherapy for crisis for eligible beneficiaries.  Services include psychiatric and comprehensive clinical assessments, individual, group and family therapies, psychotherapy for crisis, and problematic sexual behaviors-cognitive behavioral therapy (PSB-CBT-A) for adolescents ages 13-18.  Services focus on reducing psychiatric and behavioral symptoms to improve functioning in familial, social, educational, or occupational life domains. Outpatient behavioral health services often involve the participation of family members, natural supports, and legally responsible person(s), as applicable.

The expected clinical outcomes must relate to the identified goals in the beneficiary’s treatment plan, and must reflect changes in symptoms and behaviors that, when met, promote increased functioning such that beneficiary no longer meets medical necessity criteria for further treatment. The goals of Outpatient Behavioral Health Services include reduced symptomatology or abstinence, or decreased use of substances, vocational or educational gains, decreased engagement with the justice system, stability in housing, and increased social supports.
